One of our flagship product lines, our Sanctuary Candle line is designed for the most important of liturgical uses, signifying the presence of Our Lord in the tabernacle.
The bottle sanctuary light is an invention of the Root Candle Company. Originally, the presence of the Eucharist in the tabernacle was signified by lighting a wick in a glass container of oil. Frustrated by oil dripping onto his lovely sanctuary carpets, Bishop Joseph Schrembs of the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland approached Huber Root for help. A tinkerer like his father, Amos, Huber took on the challenge. His first prototype was a glass hurricane globe filled with a wax/vegetable oil mixture. Once this was found to be superior to an oil candle, Huber improved upon his original design, ending a candle that was contained in a flat-bottomed glass jar! This was a revolutionary invention, since it required a specialized wax formulation and a new type of wick. |
